
President and CEO, Breathe California; Co-coordinator, Silicon Valley Clean Cities Coalition
Margo Leathers Sidener, currently serves as President and CEO of Breathe California of the Bay Area and the Silicon Valley Clean Cities Coalition Coordinator, a 99-year-old nonprofit grassroots organization that was formed to fight lung disease and protect lung health. She has developed and implemented alternative fuel vehicle projects for the last decade, focusing on corporate and municipal fleets, and has conducted clean commute and public transportation advocacy for two decades. The agency’s newest clean air program is Youth for a Cool Earth (YCE), which worked with a three-school campus to reduce traffic and energy use. YCE trains and utilizes students as peer mentors to recruit stakeholder participation.
Margo began her affiliation with the agency twenty-seven years ago as a volunteer. Initially hired in 1982 as a part-time program staff for a specific project, Margo moved progressively through the organization and was appointed Executive Director in 1988.
Margo has a Master of Science Degree in Health Education from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York and is a Certified Health Education Specialist. She also has a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Illinois.
