The Green Team

the Green Team

The GREEN TEAM is a partnership between the Silicon Valley Clean Cities Coalition, Breathe California, and Electronic Transportation Development Center (ETDC). Silicon Valley Clean Cities Coalition, which is one about 100 DOE-funded coalitions in the nation working to promote and expand alternative fuel vehicles, improve air quality, and decrease our dependence on imported. Breathe California of the Bay Area is a local 100-year-old non-profit organization that fights lung disease in all its forms and works with its communities to promote lung health. Electronic Transportation Development Center (ETDC) focuses on utilizing green technologies from Silicon Valley. One of the Green Team’s main objectives is to provide outreach, education and training on alternative fuels and vehicles, and infrastructure. In addition together with several stakeholders, the Green Team is working on projects promoting solar fueling of electric vehicles, a solution that ensures zero emissions from charging and zero emissions from driving.

Silicon Valley Clean Cities Accomplishments

  • Since becoming a member of the National Clean Cities program, the Silicon Valley Clean Cities Coalition (formerly South Bay Clean Cities) members have worked together to make outstanding accomplishments, including:
  • Five Department of Energy Advancing the Choice Workshops, which educate about alternative fuels and their applications, case studies, legislation and regulations, fuel safety, training, and funding opportunities.
  • Working with the San José International Airport staff to implement a CNG refueling station for the 17 new CNG shuttle buses that the airport has received. The airport's CNG fueling station had its grand opening in August 2003.
  • The City of San Jose has developed a Clean-Fuel Vehicle purchase incentive program, which offers free parking to qualified hybrid vehicles in all downtown parking garages to encourage emission reduction, stimulate the downtown economy and increase the sales of Clean-Fuel vehicles at San José auto dealers.

Mission Statement

The Silicon Valley Clean Cities Coalition members work together to promote and expand alternative fuel vehicles and improve air quality, hold educational and training workshops, support alternative fuel legislation, and decrease the dependence on imported oil in order to increase national security and environmental quality.

The Silicon Valley Clean Cities Coalition (SV Clean Cities) is a partnership of public, private agencies, businesses, and interested citizens dedicated to the advancement of alternative fuels in order to improve the air quality of the Silicon Valley.

The Coalition is dedicated to promoting and implementing the use of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs), building a supporting infrastructure, and fulfilling the goals and objectives of the Coalition. Members of the Coalition act as resources for each other and share ideas on how to implement our goals and objectives.

We aim to promote the awareness of alternative fuels to improve air quality in the Silicon Valley Region and to encourage AFV use thus enhancing energy security and environmental quality at both the national and local levels.

SV Clean Cities is headed by a Board of Directors. The Coalition has staffed a panel of experts that is available to help you with fuel specific questions and implementation assistance on cleaner vehicles.

Goals and Objectives

  • Increase the number of AFVs and alternative fueling stations in the Silicon Valley Region.
  • Improve the air quality of the Silicon Valley Region by encouraging the use of alternative fuels, encouraging alternatives modes to transportation, and supporting legislation that improve air quality.
  • Provide training and informational workshops on alternative fuels and alternative fuel vehicles to AFV operators and technicians.
  • Act as an informational clearinghouse to promote the awareness of clean fuels and AFVs by providing workshops, grant-writing assistance, and alternative fuel outreach on legislation and funding opportunities.
  • Work with legislators and community leaders to affect policy and legislation, increase public awareness, and secure funding on AFVs.
